Vladyslav Shcherbyna (1926-2017), member of the National Academy of Arts (1958). He graduated from the Odesa Art School named after M. Hrekov (1950, teacher A. Chubin). At the KECAF - from 1954 to 1988; chief artist; chairman of the decorative art section of the NUAU (1962-1965); member of the All-Union and Republican Art Councils (1960-1988).
V. Shcherbyna modeled sets, souvenirs, decorative products (vases, flasks, purses), created paintings and drawings for decals for them. However, the most numerous and significant is his work in the field of small plastic (table, interior, exhibition compositions, miniature, relief). Thanks to the work of the artist, the production of small plastics at KECAF has acquired a truly industrial scale. The compositions "Sadko", "Odarka" and "Karas" (all-1956), "Humpbacked Horse" (1959), "Vakula" (1965) glorified the products of the factory far beyond the USSR. In addition, since the 1960s, V. Shcherbyna created purely exhibition thematic works outside the factory plan, with which he participated in major art exhibitions. The overwhelming number of works was purchased by the Art Fund of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR.
Artist's creative guidelines constantly changed in accordance with the aesthetic demands of the time, they were the standards of style for other porcelain artists. The work of V. Shcherbyna is characterized by a variety of themes, plots and artistic techniques and gives a complete picture of the development of small porcelain plastics of Ukraine in the second half of the twentieth century.
Small plastic by V. Shcherbyna was produced at KECAF and other porcelain factories. The works participated in republican, all-Union, international art and industrial exhibitions since 1951, received awards, were exported abroad; now they are kept in leading museums.
